Trust in His Sovereignty

There are so many things that happen in our lives that we just do not understand.

Reasoning is what we all search for when something happens. We want to make sense of why the incident occurred, whether it's good or bad. When good happens to us or someone else, we immediately reconcile it in our minds and the feelings of joy and happiness that come with it feel right. It makes sense to us. But when bad occurrences happen, we have a harder time with reasoning. We have so many questions. What? Why? How? When? Where? And back to why again.
One thing we have to remember is that God does not intend "bad" for our lives. Bad happens as a consequence of the fallen nature that the flesh inherited back in the book of Genesis. While trying to convince Eve to disobey God and eat the fruit that she was told not to eat, the serpent says to her in Genesis 3:5, "For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." It was never God's intention for us to know evil. His command not to eat the fruit was a command of protection, not dominance. He wanted Adam and Eve to only experience good!
James 1:17 says, "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." Jeremiah 29:11 says, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." Having the understanding that we have such a loving God who only intends good towards us, helps us to learn to trust Him more. Even though this world is full of evil, goodness is still here too and God knows how to work all things (good and bad) together for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). We just have to trust in His sovereignty to do so.
PRAYER FOR TODAY:
Lord, thank you that you only mean good towards us. When bad happens, we choose to trust in your sovereignty that you will work all things for our good. Our hope is in you. Help us to trust you, not just in the good, but in the bad also. You don't change on us. Help us not to change on you due to our circumstances. We love you and we thank you. Amen.
