The Power of Ministering to Yourself

Last week I talked about the importance of sharing our testimonies in order to encourage and inspire others. But it's also important to testify to ourselves as a reminder of the goodness of God in our lives.

The song, "Encourage Yourself" by Donald Lawrence, is such a good plug here. Sometimes there's no one there to encourage you, but you have to know how to encourage yourself. The Bible tells us to build ourselves up on our most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost...(Jude :1:20). We build ourselves up in prayer (talking to and with God) and faith in the Word. As the song goes:

Verse 1:

Sometimes you have to encourage yourself.

Sometimes you have to speak victory during the test.

And no matter how you feel,

speak the word and you will be healed;

speak over yourself,

encourage yourself in the Lord.

Recently, I had to do this very thing when I was having a moment of doubt and fear. I had to start reminding myself of the times when God had actually done the very thing that I needed to believe Him for again. Sometimes our faith can be challenged even when God has done it before because this time around the need is bigger or our responsibilities have grown and we need God to come through in a bigger way this time. As I testified to myself and spoke the Word of God to the situation, that doubt and fear began to dissipate and my faith grew. Eventually, I forgot all about the situation and faith and peace settled my mind.

Verse 2:

Sometimes you have to speak the word over yourself,

the pressure is all around,

but God is a present help.

The enemy created walls,

but remember giants, they do fall;

speak over yourself,

encourage yourself in the Lord.

I pray this post is an encouragement to someone today. The peace and power is already within us, but we have to draw from it. Thank God for how He has given us victory in every area. Growing in faith and building ourselves up in the faith never ceases; it's a part of our daily walk with Christ Jesus. I'm thankful that His Spirit is here to guide us every step of the way.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord, thank you for giving us the ability and the power to encourage ourselves in you. Your Word has already been given to us to utilize as our weapon in the spirit. Teach us, Holy Spirit, as we go about our daily walk with you to always be mindful of the need to build ourselves up by praying in the Holy Ghost and speaking the Word. You, Lord, are our ever present help. We love you and we thank you. Amen.
