You can relate, right? Fear brings uncertainties that swirl through your mind keeping you from making progress.
First of all, what is fear? The word "fear" in the Greek is "Deilia" which means, cowardice, timidity, fearfulness. The very first instance of fear that we see in God’s Word is in Genesis 3:10 where Adam said, “I heard the sound of Thee in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself.” The first indication that fear had entered the picture was after Adam’s disobedience. Disobedience gave access to the spirit of fear in his life, and his bloodline, as a result. Unfortunately, we are still today having to individually conquer the spirit of fear in our lives.
I love this song called “The Breakup Song” by Francesca Battistelli. If you haven't heard it you should check it out. There’s a lyric in the song that simply says, ‘I have my own identity.’ God spoke to my heart as I was listening and said, “Fear comes to take your identity.” Our true identity, once we become a believer, is in Christ Jesus. Fear comes to hinder you from walking in who God created you to be. It comes to steal from you so that you don’t walk in the will of God for your life. God has a great plan for each of us and He wants to use us to be a blessing to others. Fear hinders our ability and our capacity to be used when we allow it to be in control.
That’s why we see Paul telling Timothy in 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear (timidity), but of power and love and discipline (sound judgement). Our true identity in Christ is courageous and powerful. Many times God told the children of Israel to be bold and courageous. The enemy of our souls wants us to be hindered by the false identity that fear puts upon us. It empowers Satan for us to be timid and anxious. But as we rise up and accept our Godly nature, we take hold of who His Word tells us that we are and what we can do. "We can do all things through Christ who gives us strength." - Philippians 4:13
Prayer to God
God help us to know who we are through studying your Word and being with you through prayer. Help us to receive and know our true identity in Christ and be who you have called us to be without reservation or apology. Knowing you and knowing who we are as a result of Jesus’ life and sacrifice for us makes all the difference.
