The word "hearken" is not a common word that we hear today, but its meaning is so important and relevant to the season we're in as Believers. Hearken doesn't just mean to listen, but it also means to listen with the intent to obey. It's a heart posture of obedience to what we discern that the Lord is speaking. So, first to discern, or perceive, what the voice of the Lord is saying and then to take action in obedience.

The Lord says in Deuteronomy 28:1, "And it shall come to pass, if you shall hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all His commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord your God will set you on high above all nations of the earth: and all these blessings shall come on you, and overtake you, if you will hearken unto the voice of the Lord your God." There are blessings on the other side of hearing and obeying. And in the times we live in today, we have to be ever so diligent to not allow ourselves to be distracted. Lord knows it's a challenge for us to stay in tune with all of the things pulling for our attention. I mean, look at our phones and how fast our focus can be shifted in an instant. People have access to us in so many different ways now. Media and information can be accessed at the press of a button or with a scroll on the screen.

We have to be intentional to pay attention to our individual weak areas. Yes, we have to pray for ourselves too so that our hearts can be in a posture to hear. Sacrifice is inevitable for a person who wants to walk with God. There are some things that we need to be discerning, even within ourselves, that we may need to put down. The Lord is calling us to be aware! Aware of what? Aware of His voice. We have to be in tune to discern what is of Him and what isn't. It's not just what's happening in the world, but also what's happening within us that we need to be aware of. The Bible tells us to draw near to God and He will draw near to us (James 4:8). He that has an ear to hear let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the church!(Revelation 2:7)

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord, we yield ourselves and open our hearts to discern what you are speaking in this season. Help us to put down the things you reveal that may be hindering our ability to hear. We want our hearts to be in position to hearken to your voice and to be used of you in whatever way you see fit. We thank you Lord for your love and we desire for your love to show through us every day to others. We love you and we thank you. Amen.
